CIN and Angel Forum Host Scenic Pitch Event in Squamish

Last Friday, June 10th, Capital Investment Network partnered with Angel Forum to host Summit on the Mountain, a pitch event located at the top of the Squamish Sea to Sky Gondola. The sold-out event was packed with investors and entrepreneurs gathering to hear more about some of BC’s most promising new companies.

The event opened with a gondola ride up to the pitch event, which provided breathtaking views of the famous Stawamus Chief mountain and the waters below. After the Gondola ride, the event’s attendees enjoyed a delicious lunch overlooking the scenery, followed by the first four company presentations:

  • Susgrainable, a flour and baking mix brand which utilizes spent grains from beer distilleries, was the first to present. Susgrainable’s flour is both high in protein and fiber and low in carbs and sugar, allowing customers to enjoy delicious and healthy flour while saving would-be food waste.
  • Divisin.ai is an operating system and pricing tool for property managers. Divisin uses market data to suggest appropriate prices for managers and allows property managers to seamlessly control and monitor their properties from the comfort of their computers or smartphones.
  • Campertunity is an online marketplace where campers can find campsite owners to book short-term stays. Put more simply, Campertunity aims to be the Airbnb of camping and is the first Canadian company to do so.
  • Nectarine Credit is a platform that allows companies to manage credit applications through an easy-to-use dashboard. Nectarine Credit was created as an efficient solution to the tedious and time-consuming process of credit applications and serves as a clean replacement for the usual paper application process.

After the last of the initial four pitches, Angel Forum presented the Greg Smith Award. The award honours businesses that have demonstrated exceptional grit and resilience in the face of adversity. The recipient of the Greg Smith Award, Redlen Technologies, emerged from near bankruptcy in 2008 to sell to Canon Inc. for 335 million USD in 2021.

This year, the award was given to Actenum, a software company for clients in the oil and gas industry. Actenum started to generate revenue after a raise in 2006 but was hit hard in 2008 when it ran into financial troubles during the global recession. Times got worse as years went by; however, this did not stop them from staying resilient and becoming profitable, with over 30 employees today!

Congratulations to Actenum for being an excellent role model for all entrepreneurs out there who are facing complex challenges!

Following the Greg Smith Award and a short break, the last three companies presented:

  • Orderlyst is a food supply marketplace aimed at independent restaurants, designed to reduce food and labour costs while increasing ordering efficiency. Orderlyst allows restaurants to compare different products, streamline the ordering process, and automatically reorder products when low in inventory.
  • Spraywerx is a nanotech company whose patented technology directly coats the inside of hard-to-reach pipes and tubes with thermal spray, a task previously thought to be near impossible. The company’s unique products have enjoyed traction in both North America and Europe.
  • Enermetrics is a software company that creates reports for large companies on achieving net-zero and facilitating ESG initiatives. The software serves as an alternative to consulting companies and uses the companies’ goals and budgets to develop optimal solutions.

Following the pitches, the Summit’s attendees got to socialize and enjoy complimentary drinks, all within the backdrop of the beautiful Squamish mountains.

Thank you to Angel Forum for setting up the event and to everyone who came out and made for such a wonderful afternoon. We hope to see you all at the next event!
